Honda has hit a hat trick with the success of its third consecutive vehicle, the Mobilio in the Indian market. Launched in India on July 23, 2014, the Mobilio not just opened to an overwhelming response but according to the August sales report the MPV has toppled its arch rival Ertiga in monthly sales. Though the difference in sales of both the vehicles is marginal, HCIL delivered 5530 units of the newly launched MPV last month; on the other hand MSI sold 5,491 units of Ertiga in the month of August.
Priced a tad higher than Ertiga, Mobilio MPV boasts of larger dimensions hence offering roomier cabin. The focal point of the Mobilio is its capacious third row that makes it a preferred choice over the Ertiga. With the festive season on the brink of beginning, the demand is expected to go higher. HCIL in anticipation of surge in demand temporarily halted production of the new City at its Greater Noida facility to accommodate enhanced production for Mobilio. The City's production will resume shortly at the company's other plant in Tapukara located in Rajasthan.
The Brio based MPV is offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. Petrol version comes with the 1.5 litre i-VTEC petrol engine that is good for 117bhp and 145Nm. The diesel range of Mobilio houses Honda's 1.5 litre i-DTEC turbo diesel powertrain capable of generating maximum power output of 99bhp and a peak torque of 200Nm. Fuel economy delivered by both the engines is commendable, the petrol variant is claimed to deliver an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 17.4Km/l, while the diesel version is vouched to return an excellent mileage of 24.2Km/l.
