Honda City's Waiting Period to Come Down
Highlights
Honda Cars India, that has been facing production issues for quite sometime now, has now doubled the production capacity at its Tapukara, Rajasthan facility. From the earlier output of 5,000 units per month, the production has been ramped up to 10,000 to reduce waiting period of its mid-sized sedan - the City. In October, 2014 sales, Honda City lost its position to the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
Launched in January, 2014, the new-gen Honda City has received great response from the market, and currently has a waiting period of up to three months. To bring down the waiting period, the company has started two shifts at its Tapukara plant, where it produces City and Amaze. In August, 2014, the company had temporarily suspended production of City to shift its manufacturing to the Rajasthan based facility from Greater Noida plant to meet the rising demand of the Mobilio MPV.
Honda's Greater Noida facility, that produces models like Brio, Amaze, Mobilio and CR-V, also has a production capacity of 10,000 units per month on a double shift basis.
Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) reported 18.08 per cent increase in domestic sales in October, 2014 at 13,242 units. Last month, Honda sold 1,548 units of Brio, 3,842 units of Amaze, 2,985 units of Mobilio, 5,120 units of City and 71 units of CR-V. Moreover, the company exported 357 units in October, 2014.
