Goel's exit from the company comes at a time when Honda is facing some major difficulties with production and sales. Due to the supply-chain constraints caused by the global shortage of semiconductor chips, Honda saw a massive 45 per cent decline in year-on-year sales in November 2021. This also led to the company resorting to a few non-production days last month.

Last year, Honda also consolidated its production operations to its Tapukara plant in Rajasthan, effectively ending production operations at its old facility in Greater Noida. The transition also led to the discontinuation of its two flagship models - the Civic and the CR-V, which came to India as CKD (Completely Knocked-Down) units and were assembled at the Noida plant. Earlier this year Honda also introduced the updated Amaze subcompact sedan in India, which continues to be one of its best-selling models, along with the City, both accounting for an average of 3000 units per month
