Honda Brio Sales Skids to 74 in July - Mobilio to be Blamed?
Highlights
Honda's new models have turned out to be a massive success as their contribution towards monthly sales is commendable. On the contrary, from the older lot, Brio seems to be losing ground in domestic market. At least sales figure for the month of July narrate this story, Honda in the month of July has registered a growth of 40 per cent with 15,709 units sold last as against same time period last year when Japanese auto giant sold 11,223 units.
Contribution from exports was bleak at 858 units, the model wise break up for Honda cars implies at high demand for its Brio based vehicles-Amaze and Mobilio that roped in 4507 unit sales and 3,365 unit sales respectively in July, 2014. City continued to account for the highest chunk in monthly sales at 7,705 units. While Brio managed to rope in just 74 unit sales in the month of July.
Giving a closer insight into the production run at Honda's Greater Noida facility we infer that the reason behind Brio's painstakingly low sales could be its deliberate confined production. Backing this theory is the Honda's latest vehicle Mobilio that is also being manufactured at the company Greater Noida plant along with Brio hatchback and City sedan. Hence we believe that for timely delivery of Mobilio MPV, Honda might have slowed production of Brio that led to slump in its monthly sales.
Delivering 3,365 units in roughly a week's time within Mobilio's launch in India itself shows that Honda did not want to stack up waiting time for the MPV. Mobilio could prove to be the trump card for HCIL to replace Mahindra as the third largest auto maker in India, therefore currently the focus is on Mobilio at present.
