Talking about the success of the Honda Amaze, Mr. Jnaneswar Sen, Sr. Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Honda Cars India said, "Honda Amaze has established itself as a very successful entry sedan in the Indian market. During the span of 3 years, it has achieved sales milestone of 2,00,000 units bringing new customers into Honda fold. The car has been extremely popular in both big and smaller cities due to its strong value offering and Honda's core strengths of quality, durability and reliability. We are extremely thankful to all our customers for their continuous support and faith in the brand"
The Amaze is the first product from Honda to be available in both petrol and diesel engine options in India. While a 1.2-litre four-cylinder i-VTEC motor powers the petrol versions, a 1.5-litre four-cylinder i-DTEC oil burner power the diesel variants and has been specifically designed for the Indian market. The company states that it received positive results for both powertrain options on the Amaze.
With new competition coming in, it was time that Honda updated in-line with the rivals and the sub-compact sedan received a major update in March this year. The Amaze facelift brings dual front grille, subtly updated rear with reworked tail lights as well as a premium looking cabin that a revised instrument cluster with an updated MID unit, classy fabric upholstery, cockpit styled centre console among other bits. A segment first CVT automatic unit on the petrol also made it to the Amaze with the recent facelift.
With new and impressive competition coming from the Volkswagen Ameo, it will be interesting to see if the Amaze can retain its popularity in the segment. More so, since the German sub-compact sedan (available only with a petrol motor for now) undercuts its rivals by a good margin. Prices for the 2016 Honda Amaze lineup starts at Rs. 5.41 lakh for the base E petrol manual version, going up to Rs. 8.31 lakh for the range topping VX diesel manual grade (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi).
