The Hero Splendor Plus is one of the highest-selling motorcycles of India, and is popular due to its fuel-efficient engine and low running costs. The BS6 Hero Splendor Plus continues to get a 97.2 cc single-cylinder engine which is air-cooled and gets fuel-injection. The engine makes 7.91 bhp at 8,000 rpm along with 8.05 Nm at 6,000 rpm and is paired to a 4-speed gearbox. The engine is mounted on a tubular double cradle chassis, while suspension is handled by telescopic front forks and 5-step adjustable hydraulic shock abosorbers at the rear.
The Splendor Plus may have a small engine, but that is complemented by its light mass, with 110 kg kerb weight for the kick start version, and 112 kg kerb weight for the self-start version. Fuel tank capacity is just 9.8 litres, but that offers very good range, considering the fuel-efficient engine. Prices for the Hero Splendor Plus begin at Rs. 63,750 (Ex-showroom) for the base kick start, drum brake and alloy wheel variant, and go up to Rs. 67,260 (Ex-showroom) for the Black and Accent edition with self-start, drum brake alloy wheel variant with start-stop system.
TVS Radeon
The TVS Radeon is TVS Motor Company's answer to the bestselling Hero Splendor Plus. Powered by a slightly bigger 110 cc single-cylinder engine, the TVS Radeon also makes marginally more power, with 8.08 bhp at 7,350 rpm and 8.7 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The Radeon boasts of a slightly longer wheelbase (1265 mm), more ground clearance (180 mm, compared to the Hero's 165 mm). The base edition TVS Radeon is priced at Rs. 59,992 (Ex-showroom), while the top-spec disc brake variant is priced at Rs. 69,782 (Ex-showroom).
Honda CD110 Dream Deluxe
The Hero Splendor Plus started life in the 1980s as the Hero Honda CD100, and now, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) also has a 110 cc commuter motorcycle designed to compete with the Splendor Plus. The Honda CD110 Dream Deluxe promises slightly premium styling, along with features like the ACG silent start motor, and engine start stop switch. The Honda CD110 Dream Deluxe is powered by a 110 cc engine, which makes 8.7 bhp at 7,500 rpm and 9.2 Nm at 5,500 rpm. The engine is paired to a four-speed gearbox, and the CD110 Dream Deluxe also tips the scales with 112 kg kerb weight. The Honda CD110 Dream Deluxe is priced at Rs. 65,248 (Ex-showroom) for the standard variant, while the DLX variant is priced at Rs. 66,248 (Ex-showroom).
TVS Star City Plus
The TVS Start City Plus is a slightly premium 110 cc commuter motorcycle which also offers an alternative to the Hero Splendor Plus. Powered by the same 110 cc engine as the TVS Radeon, the Star City Plus also makes 8.08 bhp at 7,350 rpm, but peak torque of 8.7 Nm comes in marginally higher at 4,500 rpm. The Star City Plus also gets the same four-speed transmission, but ground clearance is slightly lower than the Radeon at 172 mm but still more than the Splendor Plus. The base TVS Star City Plus with drum brakes is priced at Rs. 68,475 (Ex-showroom), while the disc-brake equipped top-spec model is priced at Rs. 70,975 (Ex-showroom).
Bajaj CT110
The Bajaj CT110 is priced at Rs. 58,061 (Ex-showroom) and offers a superb value-for-money and fuel-efficient motorcycle, as an alternative to the Hero Splendor Plus. The Bajaj CT110 is powered by a 115 cc single-cylinder engine which makes 8.5 bhp at 7,000 rpm and 9.81 Nm at 5,000 rpm. The CT110 also gets a four-speed gearbox and comes with 118 kg kerb weight. Fuel tank capacity is 10.5 litres, while wheels are 17-inchers, compared to the 18-inch wheels of the Splendor Plus.
Bajaj Platina 100 ES
The Bajaj Platina 100 ES is another affordable Bajaj commuter motorcycle, which is positioned as a direct rival to the Hero Splendor Plus. The Platina 100 ES is priced at Rs. 56,480 (Ex-showroom), and is also powered by a 100 cc engine. Maximum power is 7.8 bhp at 7,500 rpm, with peak torque of 8.3 Nm kicking in at 5,500 rpm. The Platina 100 ES tips the scales with a kerb weight of 117 kg.
