Gujarat Police Gets Harley-Davidsons
Highlights
The Gujarat Police recently welcomed a few rather lavish additions to its fleet of vehicles, which will leave quite a lot of people envious. The said additions are Harley-Davidson bikes, Street 750 and SuperLow to be precise. The Harleys will be employed in VIP convoys during the Vibrant Gujarat Summit-2015, which will be held at Gandhinagar in January, 2015. Once the summit is over, the bikes along with other vehicles will be sent off to various police departments in the state.
The Street 750 is Harley-Davidson's cheapest offering in India with a price tag of Rs 4.1 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), while the SuperLow is priced at Rs. 5.71 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). While the Street 750 is powered by the company's liquid-cooled V-Twin engine that develops 47bhp and 60Nm, and comes mated to a 6-speed transmission. The SuperLow, on the other hand, gets an air-cooled 883cc Evolution engine that puts out about 50bhp and 69Nm.
Harley-Davidson bikes are used by police departments across the globe, with India being the latest name to add its name to the list. Though Gujarat Police is now the first Indian state police to get the Harleys, the exact number of the bikes purchased remains unknown.
