GreenCell Mobility To Deploy Intercity Electric Buses For MSRTC From June 1

GreenCell Mobility, a company offering electric mobility as a service platform, has announced that it will deploy its intercity e-bus for Maharashtra Regional State Transport Corporation (MSRTC). The electric bus, which will come under the 'Shivai' range of buses, will be deployed on June 1, 2022, commemorating the day of MSRTC's foundation, and it will run on the Pune- Ahmednagar route. In total, GreenCell will deploy 50 electric buses for intercity travel across Maharashtra for MSRTC in the cities of Pune, Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Nasik, and Solapur soon. The remaining electric buses will be deployed in a phased manner.
GreenCell Mobility says it wants to create 'green routes' with its twelve-meter buses in Maharashtra. The company has said that plan is to have 10 electric buses between Pune and Aurangabad as an extension of the route, while 12 buses will run on the Pune - Kolhapur route. At the same time, 18 buses will operate on the Pune - Nasik route, and 10 buses between Pune and Solapur. MSRTC introduced the Shivai range of electric buses for intercity commute in 2019.

Ashok Agarwal, MD& CEO, GreenCell Mobility, on the occasion said, "With these e-buses, the aim is to promote green and sustainable public transport in the state. The electric buses are fitted with a Li-ion battery, and support fast charging as well, offering a charge time of 90-120 minutes. The buses will come with a range of 250 km on a single charge, and these will be standard Luxury coaches' suitable for local transport and will have an air-conditioned cabin. GreenCell claims that a total of 3,743 tons of CO2 zero tailpipe emissions would be avoided over the lifetime of these buses.

Electric bus adoption has gained traction in India and multiple cities with state governments have embarked on the journey of electrifying their bus-based transport system. This has been further accelerated by the Government of India's Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India (FAME) Phase-II scheme.
