Free Electric Vehicle Charging for Cars? Here's what each car maker offers
Highlights
The increase in demand of electric cars has led to several big-name brands to join this industry. However, since they were a little late to the party, they have to put in double the work to make an impression in the market. One such amenity that is common in this industry is the availability of free charging.
Automakers in today's industry are talking about providing free charging for both their current and upcoming EV models. Here mentioned is a guide that has enlisted all the latest programs on which EV manufacturers provide free charging. This list will further make it easier for you to sort through this huge system of free charging programs and might even influence the car your end up buying.
Audi:
Audi is a German brand which has been able to gain world fame quite early in its efforts in the automobile industry. They have always been known for their innovation and technological advancements, making them one of the biggest brands in this segment. If you plan on or have bought the Audi E-Tron GT, you are in luck since this car is said to have access to a huge amount of free charging.
Any and all owners of this car can enjoy up to 3 years of free charging in Electrify America Charging stations. However, the said news is, this offer is not applicable for the buyer of the E-Tron Sportback and standard E-Tron. While they have made similar promises with their new launch the Q4 E-Tron, it is only applicable for the first two years of buying the car.
BMW:
Anyone who is a car enthusiast has at least once dreamt of driving a BMW. However, with their newly developed involvement in the electric vehicle industry, they have not been able to live up to the consumers' expectations. People often expect performance with added care of the customer from the company, but the brand has failed to do so this time.
In contrast to the 3 years of free charging as Audi offers, BMW only gives you a $100 of credit for EVGo charging stations. On top of that, this is only applicable for the new buyers of the cars. The models that are eligible for this are the i3, iX and i4. While some might argue ‘something is better than nothing', the loyal customers of this brand were expecting a lot more from them.
Chevrolet:
Another brand synonymous with making user-friendly, comfort based cars; Chevrolet's entry in the EV market was rather surprising. Even though they hadn't made any promises to their customers, they have surely exceeded their expectations. If you have the Bolt EV or the Bolt EUV models, you will be eligible for a free recharge of $500 for charging at EVGo stations.
In addition to that, GM is subsidizing the costs of installing a level 2 charger at the homes of owners. This is a good initiative from the brand since more people will be able to afford and install a level 2 charger at their home and not have to run to the a EVGo gas station every time.
Ford:
If you have always been a fan of the Mustang, Ford must be one of your favorite brands of all time. With some iconic models from the brand like the F-150 truck, Ford has been able to print its name in the automobile industry as one of the better all-American manufacturers. As far as the EV industry goes, Ford recently came out with two models of their iconic models.
While the F-150 EV might look good and have several features, you only get free charging with the Mustang MachE. This deal is also not very profitable as you only get 250 kWh of free charging on the Electrify America Charging Network. For the MachE, this equals to about 35 total recharges. In case, you MachE's delivery gets delayed, you will get another additional 250kWh, which means you get a total to 500kWh.
These are some of the most well-known free charging offers that you can find in the industry at this point of time. While these offers are thought to get better eventually, the EV market is still developing and choosing one of the above-mentioned offers is the best you can do.
