Ford coming out with a hybrid version of the Mustang is not new. The company had announced that there is a hybrid car in the making which would make its way to the market in 2018. The plans are now confirmed as Ford CEO Mark Fields made the announcement at the automaker's Flat Rock, Michigan assembly plant, that the hybrid Mustang will make its way to production by 2020.

Fields also announced that a hybrid version of the F-150 and an all-electric SUV with a range of 482 Km will also make hit the market alongside the hybrid Mustang. To build these new cars, Ford announced that it plans to invest $700 million in updating its Flat Rock plant. Having said that, it also cancelled previous plans of building a new $1.6 billion plant in Mexico.

Ford hasn't revealed many details on the hybrid Mustang as it is too early, but said that the hybrid version will make horsepower comparable to the current V8 model which is about 412bhp. Yes, India too gets a 5.0-litre V8 car, though detuned to 395bhp. What the carmaker also says is that the Mustang hybrid will offer even more low-end torque and this means it'll be a fun thing to drive.

With three electric or hybrid cars scheduled for 2020, Ford also announced that it will build a high-volume autonomous vehicle designed for commercial ride hailing or ride sharing and this will debut in 2021. We wait to know about the products that will make their way to India. India already has a hybrid sports car in the form of the BMW i8, and we hope the hybrid Mustang too follows this trend.
