Ford Ka Trail Is A Nice Looking Figo Cross
Highlights
- The Ka Trail gets raised ground clearance, black cladding and new decals
- There are no mechanical updates to the Ford Ka Trail
- Ford could consider introducing the Ka Trail in India as the Figo Cross
Much like India, the Brazilian market too fancies the idea of compact crossovers. No wonder then, Ford has unveiled the Ka Trail crossover at the 2016 Sao Paulo International Auto Show, one of the more interesting models at the American automaker's pavilion. Sold as the Figo in India, the Ford Ka is a popular hatchback in Brazil and the new Trail version makes it off-road compatible with a bunch of upgrades.
Over the standard model, the 2017 Ford Ka Trail gets black plastic cladding around the wheel arches, faux brushed silver skid plate, raised ground clearance and 15-inch gunmetal finished alloy wheels (standard version gets 14-inch) wrapped dual purpose tyres.
You also get a new honeycomb mesh grille at the front, while the headlamps get the smoked effect with the fog lamps blacked out too. The side profile gets 'Trail' decal across the doors, while the ORVMs, door handles and roof rails are finished in matte grey that helps create a contrast in the styling. The interior gets no significant change as such, save for the new leather upholstered seats with contrast stitching and sport pedals.
The new Ford Ka Trail has been tastefully spruced up and does not defer too much from the standard hatchback. Power options remain the same on the Brazilian model with the 1.5-litre Sigma four-cylinder petrol engine tuned to produce 110hp and 146Nm of torque. The motor comes paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.
The hatchback-crossover segment has a quite a number of offerings in India including the Toyota Etios Cross, Hyundai i20 Active, Volkswagen Cross Polo, Fiat Urban Cross and much more. It isn't clear if Ford India plans to introduce the Ka Trail, or Figo Trail as it will be called in the country. With the liking for butch looking small cars strong in India, the Ford Figo Trail just might find acceptance.
