The all-new Ford Freestyle compact utility vehicle (CUV) is expected to be launched in India this month, while bookings for the car are all set to start from the April 7. - The Ford Freestyle is essentially a crossover version of its Figo hatchback and will mark the company's venture into the steadily growing segment, which has a bunch of varied player like - the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Celerio X, Toyota Etios Cross and even the Fiat Urban Cross.
- The Ford Freestyle primarily comes in four variants - Ambiente, Trend, Titanium, and Titanium+, which are further segmented into 8 iterations based on the petrol and diesel engine options.
- The petrol version of the Ford Freestyle is powered by an all-new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder engine from the carmaker's Dragon series. The 1194 cc motor is capable of churning out about 95 bhp at 6500 rpm and develops 120 Nm of peak torque at 4200 rpm. The motor comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Ford does not have an automatic variant on offer yet.
- The diesel version of the Ford Freestyle gets the same 1.5-litre unit that does duty in the EcoSport. The 1498 cc, four-cylinder oil burner makes 99 bhp at 3750 rpm and develops 215 Nm of peak torque and this one too comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.
- The Freestyle is slightly bigger than the regular Figo in all aspects. The car measures 3954 mm in length, 1737 mm in width and 1570 mm in height, but surprisingly the wheelbase is marginally less now at 2490 mm, although the boot space is the same 257 litre.
- Visually, the Freestyle comes with a rugged styling with a host of black design elements for the mesh grille, bumper inserts, underbody cladding and ORVMs among others. The headlamps also come with black bezels, along with black wheel arch cladding, side body cladding and silver roof rails.
- The car comes with standard halogen headlamps instead of LED or projector units, and neither does it get daytime running lamps, which is right now offered with almost every new car, at least as an option. It also features a roof-mounted spoiler with integrated stop lights, LED taillamps and rear windshield wiper. The car also integrated turn signal lights with the ORVMs, front and rear skid plates, automatic headlamps, and rain sensing wipers.
Also Read: Ford Freestyle - Features Explained in Detail - The cabin comes with all black interior like the Figo Sport while the centre stage is taken by the floating infotainment display, borrowed from the EcoSport. The system gets smartphone integration in the form of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and the company's SYNC3 connectivity system. The system is offered in all variant from the Trend and above.
- In terms of comfort and convenience, the Freestyle comes with features like two 12V power charger, keyless entry, one touch down function for driver side window, and day/night IRVMs as standard. While optional features include - all 4 power windows, one touch up and down function for driver side window, push-button start, height adjustable driver seat, automatic climate control, and Ford MyKey.
- On the safety front, the Freestyle gets ABS with EBD and dual front airbags as standard across the trim-options while the top-spec model gets six airbags in total. Ford also offers an Active Rollover Prevention a.k.a. ARP system in the Titanium and Titanium+ models, while the rearview camera is offered from the Trend variant and above. Other standard features include rear parking sensors, engine immobiliser, 3 point seatbelts, and more.
