Ford Announces Plans to Launch Four New SUVs by 2020
Highlights
Now, when Ford says nameplates is clearly subjective, as the use of the term could indicates the possibility that the company would introduce a new model and sell it with two monikers in different regions. Ford has used this strategy on many occasions like in the case of the Ford Endeavour which is called Everest in some global markets, whereas, the Ford Escape, is sold as Kuga outside the US. But it could also be the other way around as Ford claims that the SUVs will be part of new segments in which the company currently doesn't have any models to offer.

Now there is a reason why Ford plans to do all this. According to the information we have received, Ford estimates SUV sales will continue to increase into the next decade, especially in United States. The carmaker says that more and more millennials are starting families and are on the look for SUVs. Also Ford believes that senior car buyers have the tendency to stay or return to SUVs and it is these two segment groups that the company plans to target with its new SUV range.
Another reason why Ford believes in putting its efforts to develop new SUVs is because of its new array of engines. Apparently, Ford new engine range, especially its EcoBoost technology has provern to offer increased fuel efficiency. Thanks to this, the prognosis is people will continue to buy more SUVs even if gas prices will go up again in the future. Moreover during the launch of the new generation Ford Endeavour in India, the company had mentioned that it is targeting to achieve 25% market share in the global SUV market by 2020.
In fact, Ford is expected to introduce the new Kuga facelift on February 22 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
