In a surprising move, Yamaha India has brought back the first-generation Yamaha R15 in the country that will be sold alongside the YZF-R15 Version 2.0. To be called the Yamaha R15 S, the bike is priced at Rs. 1.14 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Though the company hasn't officially announced any such plans, the bike has reached Yamaha dealerships.
Save for the "S" badge, new alloy wheels, revised pillion grab-bar, new graphics and R15 V2.0's exhaust design, the Yamaha YZF-R15 remains similar to the old model. Interestingly, it also retains the old design and single-piece seat thus offering the same level of comfort for which the first-gen R15 was known for.
Compared to the YZF-R15 Version 2.0, the Yamaha R15 S has about 10mm less saddle height than that of the former. Moreover, the bike's wheelbase is about 55mm smaller and its weight is almost 5kg less than the Version 2.0.
Power for the Yamaha R15 comes from a 149.8cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected, liquid-cooled unit. Mated to a six-speed gearbox, this engine churns out 17bhp and 15Nm.
