Tweeting about the incident, Ather Energy said, "Before you hear it from others, there has been a minor fire incident at our premises in Chennai. While some property and scooters got affected, thankfully all employees are safe and things are under control. The experience centre will be operational shortly."
With multiple fire incidents related to electric scooters in the news, Ather remained unscathed until now. It's unclear at the moment as to what led to the fire at the dealership. Previously, scooters from Ola Electric, Okinawa, Pure EV, and Boom Motors among other players were involved in fire incidents. So far, six deaths have been reported due to fires or battery explosions in relation to electric vehicles.
The incident did shed light on the quality standards that were being followed by manufacturers for producing electric vehicles. The government also recently admitted to its lapse of maintaining the necessary safety and quality in electric vehicles with no proper guidelines in place.
