Highlights

  • Liberty media will be promoting the technology of the engines used
  • F1 has failed to fortify the fact that it uses the most efficient engines
  • F1 also wants to promote the green credentials of this engine

One of the biggest failings of the turbo V6 hybrid era of F1 has been the portrayal of these new engines. Often teams and drivers have complained that they don't have the iconic F1 engine sound and take away from the show and at the same time, environmentalists have hammered home the fact that this power plant isn't sustainable. For teams, it has been a huge investment too despite its technology not being fully transferable to road car programs. This is why F1 is also moving away from MGU-H for the new 2026 engine formula.

But there is a lot of good and cutting-edge tech in these engines which have evolved to a point where they provide 52 percent thermal efficiency. These are the most efficient engines in the world, but most people don't know about this.

To promote this fact, F1 will be debuting a new graphic at the Brazilian GP weekend which will showcase to the audience how efficient the turbo-hybrid system is and how sustainable it is compared to engines used in other motorsports.

There will be new graphics on the TV alongside new branding which has a green backdrop and adds the tagline "powered by hybrid since 2014" and "the world's most efficient engine".

This is a preamble to the fact that in 2022 F1 will use 10 percent E10 synthetic fuel which will make this engine even greener. For the 2026 formula, F1 is taking a bolder step - as the internal combustion engine will be powered by a 100 percent sustainable biofuel in tandem with a larger electrical element that generates more than 350 bhp of output as F1 aims for 100 percent carbon neutrality by 2030.
