Highlights

The final session of free practice at Hockenheim clearly saw Nico Rosberg come to form and do a brilliant run to go faster than his team mate. Rosberg set the time charts on fire by posting a time of 1:17.779s.

The other Mercedes with Hamilton behind the wheel, had no answer to this set time and though he was on supersofts (same as Rosberg) he could only manage a 1:18.380 and could not improve. Hamilton kept the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso at bay who was 0.004s slower than the Mercedes. Alonso was third fastest followed by Felipe Massa in fourth and Valtteri Bottas in fifth.

Sixth was Kevin Magnussen for McLaren ahead of Daniel Ricciardo, Kimi Raikkonen, Sebastian Vettel and Nico Hulkenberg.

Raikkonen was hampered by fuel system issues but the problem was soon rectified and the Finn was back on track. Alonso's Ferrari spun at Turn 8 after having locked up under braking and the Ferrari's looked to struggle in the absence of the FRIC suspension systems.

The stats say that Rosberg will be on pole but will Hamilton make things difficult for the homeboy. One thing is clear though, we will see a Mercedes on pole position at Hockenheim.
