F1: Rosberg Capitalises on Hamilton's Error to Take Pole Position at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
Highlights
Nico Rosberg took a crucial pole position for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as he comfortably beat team-mate and title rival Lewis Hamilton. Rosberg set the great time during his first runs in the Q3 session and built the pressure on Hamilton.
Hamilton ran wide out of the penultimate corner and then locked up, leaving him over 0.3s shy of his team-mate. Rosberg turned up the heat the second time by going faster in his second run and Hamilton, yet, again, found himself locking up and ending 0.4s back, with Valtteri Bottas almost pipping him to second place.
Bottas was fastest in the first two sectors on his final lap. Felipe Massa will start alongside his Williams team-mate in fourth place. The two Red Bulls locked the third row with Ricciardo, yet again, piping Vettel, who is driving the Red Bull for the last time.
Daniil Kvyat impressed with seventh place ahead of Jenson Button, while Kimi Raikkonen outqualified team-mate Fernando Alonso on the fifth row completing the top 10.
With the front row locked by the two Mercedes cars, Rosberg is getting into the groove of things and will look to capitalize on his pole position. Hamilton , on the other hand, is not a quitter and will be adding pressure throughout the race. With all teams planning a two-stop strategy, it will be interesting to see who prevails.
