Ever since, we first heard the F1 cars in Australia, there have been talks about how silent this season has been. Even Bernie Eccelstone was heard saying that the exhaust note of the V6 is mellowed down when compared to the one on the cars last season.

There was a solution to all of this but it had nothing to do with reworking the exhaust system. A metre-long, trumpet-like attachment is what will give the 2014 cars a soundtrack that will possibly attract sponsors and crowd. Mercedes has trialled its new 'megaphone' exhausts during the in-season test at Barcelona.

The V6 turbos will be louder but this is still the prototype and not the final product. After trying and testing the 'megaphone' it will be introduced across all cars. However, we feel that the teams and the engine manufacturers will be hoping that these exhausts do not sacrifice on performance.
