Yes you read that right, it's Massa on pole position at the Austrian Grand Prix as he beat the Mercedes drivers to it. This is the first time after 2008 that Massa has been on pole and we all know that he went on to win the race in Brazil. For the first time this season, Mercedes has been unable to lock out the front row but this time around both the Williams drivers Massa and Bottas will start from P1 and P2.

At the start of Q3 Bottas had put in his best lap which put him on P1 but both the Mercedes drivers were out there to ensure that they beat the time. However, Rosberg could not improve on his time while Hamilton spun out and could not put in a timed lap in the Q3 session.

Rosberg will start in third place while it will be Alonso breathing down the Mercedes in fourth.

Q1 saw Hamilton and Rosberg fight for the top spot but Hamilton clearly was in the lead and held on to it till the close of the session. With the usual suspects out of Q2, the session began with Bottas, Massa and Magnussen putting in laps within the 1:09 quadrant. However, Hamilton and Rosberg yet again showed that the Mercedes cars are the fastest out there on the track.

Hamilton was the first to set the fastest lap in Q2 only to be overtaken by teammate Rosberg while Bottas, Massa and Magnussen completed the top 5. Drivers who found themselves out of Q3 were Sebastien Vettel who was unlucky as he could not improve on his timings just like Sergio Perez while Button faced problems with his gearbox.

It's all to play for tomorrow as Williams locks the front grid. Mercedes has the pace but Williams have proved that their cars can handle the conditions better in Austria. Williams will certainly capitalize on the advantage that they hold and make life a little difficult for Mercedes.
