As the final practice session went underway for the Austrian Grand Prix, it looked like the battle would still remain between Hamilton and Rosberg (Read FP1 and FP2 session report) but the unlikely hero of this third session was Williams' Valtteri Bottas.

Bottas was quick to begin with but his timing in the final sector improved significantly and that showed on the time he set and that was 1:09.848s. That set time placed him 0.050s ahead of Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes who was placed second while it was team mate Felipe Massa who went third quickest just 0.003s behind Hamilton.

Daniil Kvyat in the Toro Rosso set a time of 1:09.927s which saw him go fourth fastest ahead of Nico Rosberg who was placed fifth. Fernando Alonso was sixth fastest as he tried his best in the closing laps to bridge the gap but clearly Ferrari did not have the pace yet again.

Daniel Ricciardo was seventh quickest with Kevin Magnussen, Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel rounding out the top ten. Jenson Button complained yesterday that his car could not be driven through high speed corners and he hit trouble as he completed just four laps in the session. McLaren had an engine braking issue and when he returned to the pits there was a small brake fire on the right rear which caused damage and forced Button to sit out the majority of the hour.

It all comes down to the Qualification round to see who sits in pole position for tomorrow's race. We will get you all the details from the Q1, Q2 and Q3 sessions.
