Ferrari finally had something to smile about as Fernando Alonso set the fastest time of the first practice session at the Singapore Grand Prix as he beat the two Mercedes drivers. The top three were closely matched with Alonso setting the mark with a 1:49.056.

We've seen him top the time charts for the first time after the Canadian Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton was second quickest - 0.122s slower than Alonso - while Nico Rosberg was only 0.027s behind his team-mate in the second Mercedes.

Sebastian Vettel was fourth quickest for Red Bull with Daniel Ricciardo just behind him in fifth. Vettel's session ended as soon as he crossed the line with the chequered flag waving as he stopped his car at the pit lane exit and reported an engine failure.

Jean-Eric Vergne was sixth fastest in the Toro Rosso while Kimi Raikkonen was seventh but a massive 1.7 seconds slower than team-mate Alonso. Jenson Button, Daniil Kvyat and Sergio Perez rounded out the top ten. The FP2 session has already begun and both the Mercedes drivers will look to redeem themselves.
