Elon Musk Says Tesla Bot Could Develop A Personality
Highlights
- The bot has could be years away as a real product
- Musk believes it could solve many human issues like loneliness and labour
- It will use the same technology as its Auto Pilot self driving system
Any Star Trek fans here who know Commander Data, the android with a positronic brain, who even gets an emotion chip? Okay, any Robin Williams fans here who have seen the Bicentennial Man where the Android fell in love with his master and transformed himself to look like a human? Okay, any Star Wars fans who have some adulation for C-3PO, the droid designed by Anakin Skywalker when he was a child? Well, now Elon Musk is also peddling the same science fiction with the Tesla Bot which he himself has admitted is a couple of years away.
" I think the possibilities are endless. It's not quite in Tesla's primary mission directive of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy, but it's an extremely useful thing for the world to make a humanoid robot that is capable of interacting with the world and helping in many different ways," said the world's richest man.
"It could develop a personality over time that is unique. It's not like all the robots are the same. That personality could evolve to match the owner, or whatever you want to call it," he added shockingly.
Tesla is probably years away from releasing the Tesla Bot, but Musk has claimed that because of its chops in AI thanks to its efforts for self-driving supremacy, it is the world's largest robotics company. He said that the Tesla Bot will fundamentally use the same technology as its AutoPilot for doing tasks on itself along with actuators. He believed it could solve the labor issue in the world. Many robotics experts have scoffed at Tesla's claims though with one of the majors Boston Dynamics having struggled for years.
