Electric Vehicles Servicing - Basics Covered

Do cars need maintenance? Yes. Do electric cars need care? Absolutely. Even though electric vehicles have lesser parts and are much easier to operate, they require servicing from time to time. To ensure that the car functions properly, servicing regularly is something that customers should focus on. When the car isn't serviced regularly, the parts start to malfunction. That severely impacts the performance and reduces the lifespan of the vehicle.

Why servicing electric cars is easy?
There are three major reasons why servicing electric vehicles is easier compared to traditional vehicles:
- Lesser moving parts: Since there are lesser parts moving and operating during the functioning of the vehicle, the wear and tear is reduced, and so is the requirement for intense servicing.
- Regenerative braking: This is a common technique used in electric vehicles that use the power generated from the brake pads to recharge the battery. That leads to less wear and tear on the brakes.
- Cost-efficient: Servicing an electric car actually costs 30% less than servicing a traditional car.

Timeline for servicing
Here is how an average electric vehicle should be serviced around the ownership period:
- 1 month: This needs to be checked by the customer themselves. Any signs of damage or wear can be easily seen and rectified after a month.
- Every 7500 miles: One thing that electric vehicles have in common with traditional vehicles is tires. Tires wear out over time, and that applies to EVs as well. The tires should be checked and replaced regularly.
- Twice a year: Corrosion tends to collect on the underbody of the vehicle. This can be easily washed off by the owners.
- Every 15,000 miles: The wiper blades on the windshields should be checked and replaced.
- Every 36,000 miles: The cabin air filter can get clogged over time. That should be replaced regularly depending on the use.
- Every 75,000 miles: The hood of the car should be replaced.
- Every 5 years: The coolant liquid should be flushed out and then refilled. Brake fluids should also be replaced.
- Every 7 years: The air conditioning desiccant should be changed after repeated periods of usage.

One of the best things about owning an EV is that the owner doesn't need to focus on the battery and its lifespan. The battery of an EV doesn't get damaged easily and runs unaffected for an average of 12 years!
Tires
Since tires are one of the most vulnerable parts of the EV, they need special care. Harsh braking, undue surfaces, and rash driving can damage the tread and affect the alignment of the wheels.
