Highlights

  • Upcoming Ducati V4 superbike will be unveiled in November
  • Ducati will present the new Desmosedici Stradale engine this week
  • The Desmosedici Stradale will power Ducati supersport street models

The upcoming Ducati V4 superbike has been spotted once again, this time at Mugello, in Italy. Ducati will be revealing the new V4 engine at a special event on September 7, ahead of the San Marino GP at the Misano World Circuit in Italy. The new V4 engine, named the Desmosedici Stradale, will be unveiled at that event. Future models of Ducati sportbikes will sport this engine, and possibly other variants, following the decision to do away with v-twin engine, the last of which, is on the Panigale R Final Edition. The production-spec bike is however still a couple of months away and will, in all likelihood, be unveiled at the EICMA show in November.

Based on a MotoGP inspired design, the Desmosedici Stradale engine is a 90-degree V4 motor with desmodromic valves and a special firing order. "Stradale" is Italian for road, so it's fair to assume that the new engine will be used to power Ducati's newest supersport street model, which will be the likely successor of the 1299 Panigale R. The Ducati V4 test mules have been spotted several times undergoing testing over the past few months, and look like a near-production model is almost ready.

So far, very few other details are available about the new engine, as well as the upcoming superbike. With design elements from the Desmosedici MotoGP race bike and the Panigale Superquadro engine, expect the new engine to have an output of over 200 bhp, even on the road-going model. More details will be available once the Desmosedici Stradale engine is unveiled on September 7.
