- It gets higher mounted mudguard, engine skid plate and dual-purpose tyres
- Deliveries for the complete BS-IV Scrambler range begins next week
The Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled shares its underpinnings with the standard version but gets a host of upgrades to make it more off-road friendly. The bike maker says its an evolution of the Urban Enduro version. The bike gets a modified frame an suspension with high mounted mudguards. The headlamp gets a mesh guard and there is an engine skid plate to lend better off-road capability to the Desert Sled. The gold finished wheels create a nice contrast on the bike wrapped in dual-purpose 19-inch front and 17-inch rear Pirelli Scorpion Rally Str tyres.
The seat position is higher than the standard version, while a 20 mm low seat option can be purchased separately. There are also off-road style foot pegs with removable rubber pads.
The Scrambler Desert Sled draws power from the Euro 4 compliant 803 cc engine tuned air and oil cooled engine that is tuned to produce 72 bhp at 8250 rpm and peak torque of 67 Nm at 5750 rpm. That's the same engine as the standard Scrambler and also powers the recently launched Ducati Monster 797. Ducati says that the bike has been updated to meet the new homologation norms that has made way for a new throttle control and smoother power delivery, especially at the bottom end of the rev range.
Furthermore, the suspension setup on the Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled has been tweaked and you get 200 mm extended travel on the front and rear suspension. Braking performance comes from the Brembo sourced 330 mm single disc at the front with 4-piston monobloc calipers, while the rear sports a 245 mm single disc with a 32 mm diameter piston caliper. There is the Bosch 9.1 MP ABS system as well keeping power in control.
Speaking on the Scrambler Desert Sled launch, Ducati India - Managing Director, Sergi Canovas Garriga said, "We've introduced for the first time in India, a motorcycle in the 'easy off-road' category. Staying true to the Scrambler family and inspiration from the '60s and '70s, California motorcycle scene, the Desert Sled reinforces the pure essence of motorcycling: two wheels, wide handlebars, a straightforward engine and endless fun. The bike is perfect for the city and to get off the tarmac and explore the road less travelled."
Deliveries for the new Ducati Scrambler range will commence from next week onwards, while bookings are now open. The bike maker currently has outlets at Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Ahmedabad and Kochi that will be catering to the sales and service. In addition, Ducati is also offering a dedicated accessory and apparel line with the new Scrambler Desert Sled.
