Ducati Lowers Power Figures Across Models
Highlights
- The lower figures are due to a different calculation method
- Performance output now measured on dynamometer
- Figures of all Ducati bikes change, but no change in engines
Ducati has revised the performance figures across all models, with the new figures slightly lower than the ones claimed on the official spec sheet. The revised power figures first came to our notice when the Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled was launched. The launch release statement stated the Scrambler Desert Sled's output figures as 75 bhp and 68 Nm, but the official website showed the figures as 73 bhp and 67 Nm. Now, Ducati has confirmed that the engine and specs remain the same across all models, but the official power figures are now different because of the way the figures are now measured according to homologation regulations.

Ducati said in a statement: "the power/torque values indicated are measured using an engine dynamometer according to homologation regulation and they correspond to the homologated data, as quoted in the Bike Registration Document." When contacted, a Ducati India official clarified that there is no drop in power as such, the difference is only because of the way the performance figures were calculated before and the way they are calculated now.
What this essentially means is that, specifications so far mentioned in the official documents were taken from figures measured on a chassis dynamometer, but according to the homologation regulations, now all specifications related to engine power and torque are being measured on an engine dyno, so there is a slight difference in figures across the models. So, both figures are actually correct, but differ only because of the way they are measured. There are however, no changes in technology, and the engine and characteristics of all bikes remain the same.
So, a 205 hp Ducati 1299 Panigale now measures 197 hp, and the 157 hp 959 Panigale figures now drop to 150 hp. The Multistrada 1200S was 160 hp, and now it's measured at 152 hp. The Ducati Diavel now gets the most difference in figures, and is rated on par with the XDiavel at 152 hp. The changes have been applied across the entire Ducati model range, and are effective globally.
