Ducati Diavel? Nope, That is the 2018 Benelli 402S
Highlights
- The Benelli 402S is only meant for European markets at present
- It is powered by a 399 cc parallel-twin engine
- The engine makes around 40 bhp and 35 Nm of torque
Imitation they say is the best form of flattery, as the old adage goes. And if that is true, Benelli is definitely a big fan of Ducati. Italian rivalry aside, Benelli took the wraps off a brand new model, which is called the 402S and it is an abashed copy of the Ducati Diavel or the XDiavel, if you would! Before you forget, Benelli is owned by the Chinese and well, Chinese are well-known for umm.... Imitating stuff, we guess. And for someone who is love with the quirky looks of the Diavel, but might not have the money to buy one, can surely be lured by bike which looks EXACTLY like the Diavel, but is a lot more affordable and gets a smaller engine too.
First showcased at EICMA 2017, the Benelli 402S is one hundred per cent inspired by the off-the-charts look of a Ducati Diavel. Be it the short, stubby seat, exposed trellis frame, petal discs up front, the longish fuel tank and even the shape of the headlamp! Everything screams Ducati. Look up the rear and you will see the tyre hugger bearing the number plate holder and the indicators, again similar to the Diavel.
Coming to the engine, the Benelli 402S gets a 399.3 cc parallel-twin engine which is liquid-cooled. It makes around 40 bhp at 9,000 rpm and around 35 Nm at 7,000 rpm. Sure, it does not match up to the Diavel's mental engine but hey, it works! Also, the bike gets 41 mm USD forks and an adjustable monoshock at the rear. Also, the bike gets twin 250 mm discs upfront and a single 240 mm disc at the rear. ABS comes as a standard fitment.
The Benelli 402S will be launched in Europe in the second half of 2018 and it might make its way to other western markets as well. We are not so sure about the 402S coming to India, but if it does, we are sure that it will have a lot of takers. After all, who doesn't like a power cruiser like the Ducati Diavel (pun intended).
