Volkswagen has been the focus of headlines across the world for all the wrong reasons ever since the diesel scandal broke out last month. Interestingly, the German carmaker today issued a "temporary hold" on the deliveries of the Polo hatchback in India though it claims it is not related to the ongoing issues with its diesel engines.

According to the company's official statement, "Volkswagen India has confirmed a temporary hold on deliveries of its carline Polo due to a technical reason which is currently under evaluation. This concerns a limited number of cars out of a specific production period. Volkswagen further confirms that deliveries for the non-impacted Polo range continues as per schedule. Volkswagen would like to clarify that the temporary hold on deliveries is not related to the ongoing EA 189 diesel engine topi."

However, there are not many details available about this development.

In the wake of the scandal, several countries including India, South Korea, France, Italy, Canada, Germany, and the UK have initiated investigations in to the company in their respective countries. Late last month, Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) said it has sought details from Volkswagen upon being instructed the government to verify if the carmaker had manipulated emission tests in India too.

Recently, a report in a German newspaper claimed that many VW engineers admitted to installing the controversial software in the cars.
