Delhi To Get 8 More Automated Driving Test Tracks To Reduce Waiting Period

- The automated test tracks will come up at 8 new educational institutions
- The transport department has already floated tenders for the tracks
- The new automated test tracks are expected to cost around Rs. 10 crore
The Delhi Government has decided to install automated driving test tracks at eight more educational institutions in the city. The state government is taking this step in order to bring down the high waiting period for applicants seeking their permanent licences. Reportedly, the state transport department has already floated tenders for the construction of these new automated test tracks. The state transport department currently has 10 automated driving test tracks at its regional offices in different parts of Delhi city.

According to officials, the test tracks will come up at - Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women in Kashmere Gate, Delhi Technological University in Bawana and five Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Pusa, Jaffarpur Kalan, Mayur Vihar, Shahdara, Jail Road and Narela.

The new automated test tracks are expected to cost around Rs. 10 crore and are likely to be constructed in two months after successful bidding. Speaking PTI, a senior transport department official said, "These new automated driving test tracks will help reduce the waiting time for applicants seeking permanent driving licences. Currently, the waiting period before taking up the test is around two months."

The automated tracks are designed in a manner that allows the transport authorities to test the skill of an applicant driver through up-gradient, forward-8, reverse-S, and traffic junctions. The applicants are marked on 24 skills, including reversing vehicle on 'S' shaped stretch, parking, overtaking and crossing at intersections.
