Highlights

  • Datsun redi-GO to be priced in India starting at Rs. 2.5 lakh
  • Datsun redi-GO will compete with Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and Renault Kwid
  • Datsun redi-GO will undercut Renault Kwid by almost Rs. 10,000

Nissan-owned Japanese carmaker Datsun today unveiled India's first compact urban cross - redi-GO. The car is slated for a June 2016 launch and the company will start accepting booking from May 1 itself. Datsun has claimed that it will be targeting the young and first time buyers with the redi-GO and thus will be priced very aggressively. To keep the car within the reach of target group, Datsun redi-GO will even undercut the Renault Kwid in India. Sources close to the company have revealed that the car is expected to be priced about Rs. 10,000 less than the Kwid across variants. In fact the company is looking to get very aggressive, and given the redi-GO is shorter and slightly smaller than the Kwid, prices could actually dip to starting below Rs 2.5 lakh.

Commenting on their new product, Vincent Cobee, Global Head, Datsun said, "We have a full new platform, we have a full new engine, new transmission. It is a completely new car so yes we put all the advantages on our side to bring modernity, to bring innovation, to bring superior capability in a segment where newness is the not the best attribute in all our competitors. So we are quite confident that we will have a very attractive offer when it launches. Not only in price terms but also in performance. But when it comes to price we aim to start at Rs 2.5 lakh."

Based on the company's popular CMF-A platform, the car come with a stylish design language and the exciting features, making Datsun redi-GO a true value for money product. This indicates that the redi-GO will be a direct competition to the Renault Kwid and segment leader Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, well at least in term of pricing. So let's put down the prices on paper and see what will be the difference be like.
