Datsun GO - deliveries start from March 15
Highlights
One of the most talked-about cars in the market today is the Datsun GO, and we've just heard from reliable industry sources that it's going to be available for the consumers from March 15th onwards. That, however, does not mean that an official announcement is being made that day and the launch may happen in the coming week.
The GO is expected to be in the price bracket of 3-4 lakhs and the dealers are accepting orders with a minimum (refundable) token amount of Rs 11,000. It was also shared with us that even the base version will come with an option of equipment that the higher versions of the GO will have on offer.
We drove the GO recently and found it to be high on space and comfort. It's powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine that produces 68bhp and 110Nm of turning force. This also makes the GO the most powerful car in its segment.
It was back in July of 2013 that Carlos Ghosn, chairman and CEO of Renault-Nissan alliance, took the media centrestage by announcing the revival of Datsun which had been defunct for 27 years.
Datsun was announced as Nissan's low-cost car brand, and the GO is the first product from its portfolio. There's a sub 4-metre MPV, GO+, which will slug it out against the likes of the Maruti Ertiga when launched. Datsun also showcased a concept - rediGO - which will be the basis for a hatchback in the premium small-car segment.
