CV Sales June 2021: Ashok Leyland Registers Total Sales Of 6,448 Units As Lockdown Eases

Ashok Leyland, the home-grown commercial vehicle manufacturer, has released the monthly sales numbers for June 2021. Last month, the company's total sales stood at 6,448 units, more than double compared to the 3199 units sold a month ago in May 2021. However, we have to consider the fact that in May most states in India were under a near-total lockdown affecting retails as well as production. So, the month-on-month growth is merely an anomaly. Similarly, compared to 2394 units sold in June 2020, Ashok Leyland's monthly sales nearly tripled last month. That said, last year in June, India was still coming out of a nationwide lockdown, so we cannot really compare the two months.

Ashok Leyland's monthly sales from medium and heavy commercial vehicles (M&HCV) alone stood at 2764 units (domestic + exports)

As for domestic sales, the company reported selling 5851 units in June 2021, which compared to 2738 units sold in May 2021 114 per cent growth. At the same time, when compared to 755 units sold in June 2020, the company saw YoY growth of 266 per cent. Again, these are merely an anomaly and not actual growth, as the market situation during all three periods were far from normal, and not comparable to each other. During June 2021, Ashok Leyland's monthly sales from medium and heavy commercial vehicles (M&HCV) alone stood at 2364 units (both trucks and buses), while the remaining 3487 units came from the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) segment.

In June 2021, Ashok Leyland's total exports stood at 597 units, which compared to 461 units exported in May 2021, is a MoM growth of nearly 30 per cent. The same compared to 262 units exported a year ago, in June 2020, is a growth of 128 per cent, however as mentioned earlier, this is not really an actual growth as the conditions were very different. In June 2021, Ashok Leyland exported 400 units of medium and heavy commercial vehicles (M&HCV), including trucks and buses. The remaining 197 units came from the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) exports.
