Highlights

  • The RE Interceptor 650 is proving to be a hit with custom builders
  • The STG Tracker 650 Scrambler is another scrambler built on the INT 650
  • Royal Enfield is believed to be working on its production Scrambler 650

Argentina-based custom motorcycle builders STG Tracker has unveiled its own scrambler build based on the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. The bike looks neat, and leaves no doubt about the donor model, with STG Tracker retaining the stock fuel tank, as well as the frame. With knobby tyres, a side-mounted scrambler-style high exhaust, engine bashplate and knobby tyres, the Scrambler 650 looks like the real-deal, but certainly oozes the appeal of a garage-built scrambler, rather than a production model out of a factory assembly line.

STG Tracker uses typical scrambler-elements, like a side-mounted high exhaust, bash plate and knobby tyres

The seat is a custom unit finished in tan leather, with a minimalistic tail section with a custom taillight. The raised handlebar with hand-protectors and a headlight grille on the blacked-out headlight complement the blacked out engine. In fact, Royal Enfield may well be developing a new production scrambler based on the 650 Twins platform, along with a cruiser model. While we've seen spy shots of the 650 cruiser undergoing test runs in India, there's no word on the 650 Scrambler yet. But we'll still put our money on a production Scrambler 650 coming out of Royal Enfield pretty soon.

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, as well as its sibling, the Continental GT 650, have proved to be worthy motorcycles to be used for custom builds across the world. In fact, these two bikes seem to offer the perfect blank canvas for custom builders to express their creativity and build custom racers, scramblers and even cruisers. There have been murmurs of a 650 cc Himalayan in the making, but we at carandbike have not been proponents of such a development. The 650 Twins platform isn't the ideal platform for an adventure bike, and our view is that Royal Enfield will need to develop a completely new chassis and platform for a bigger sized adventure bike than the Himalayan. So, the logical next model in the 650 Twins platform, is a Scrambler, and a cruiser.
