Highlights

The excitement is palpable as Dhruv and I begin the first leg of the Great OverLand Adventure from Istanbul, Turkey to Vienna, Austria. Interestingly, Istanbul was the first foreign city I ever set foot on albeit briefly, while Vienna was the last European city I visited. Let me put it this way: Istanbul was where I first discovered my desire to travel the world, and that young boy's yearning took me far and wide - with the latest one being Vienna.

    GLAadventure - Vienna

I suppose it suffices to say that I am no believer of coincidences, for my faith lies with destiny.

Memories of Vienna are still fresh in my mind - it's not a place one forgets easily. The city is lively; the rich history, the museums, and galleries among several other things make this city extraordinary. With the modern buildings blending in with the old ones, it was hard not to be amazed despite the fact that I am not much of an architecture fan.

    GLAadventure - Vienna

The renowned Ringtrasse, a 150 year-old boulevard that circles the city centre, is indeed quite the place for a breezy walk. Oh, and let's not forget the Ring Tram.

However, what really intrigued me was the opulent Vienna State Opera; unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to attend one. That said, there was no dearth of tantalising street performances.

    GLAadventure - Vienna

As far as Istanbul goes - I honestly do not remember much about it since it was only a transit stop on my way to Cairo, Egypt. So in the few hours I spent in Istanbul very many years ago - I had promised I'd return to live the adventure Turkey seemed to offer. Long story short, this leg of the Great OverLand Adventure i.e. from Istanbul to Vienna will be far more than a mere road trip.
