Chevrolet Sells More than 1 Million Beats Worldwide
Highlights
It's been a very difficult year for General Motors and with news of recalls circulating every other month, there is now something to celebrate about. Chevrolet has surpassed 1 million sales worldwide of the Beat (also known as the Spark in foreign markets).
The small car has been the bread and butter for Chevrolet for the past few years now after the Tavera debacle. Launched in 2009, the Beat became one of the most wanted cars for it was small, fuel efficient and offered at a tempting price.
"Chevrolet Beat, the most fuel-efficient diesel hatchback in India, has been appreciated for its technology and is increasingly selected by young buyers both in India and abroad," said Arvind Saxena, President and Managing Director, General Motors India.
In India itself the Beat has sold more than 178,000 units and is available in petrol, diesel and even the LPG option. Today, the Chevrolet Beat is available in 71 markets worldwide, selling the most in South Korea, followed by the United States and Mexico. In the U.S. sales of the Beat are up 10% year to date.
The rise in demand saw GM India starting to export the car from its Talegaon manufacturing facility to Chile in South America. More export markets for the India-made Beat are presently under consideration.
