Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible revealed
Highlights
There were talks of a new Corvette variant that Chevrolet would showcase at the New York Motorshow and now the details and pictures have emerged of the high-performance Z06 convertible.
The drop-top model features the same basic supercar specs as its hardtop counterpart, which was revealed earlier this year in Detroit. It gets the supercharged 6.2-litre LT4 engine which delivers a thumping 625bhp. Mated to a 7-speed manual transmission with rev matching, or the new 8L90 8-speed paddle-shift automatic the Z06 promises to be an open-top delight.
The new chassis has been designed with a convertible in mind and hence the aluminum structure is 20% stiffer than the outgoing fixed-roof Z06.
"Until recently it was not possible to create a lightweight, open-roof structure strong enough to cope with the braking, cornering, and acceleration of Corvette's top performance models," said Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter.
The electronic top can be lowered remotely using the key fob, or even on the go at speeds of up to 48km/h.
It will share the stage at the New York Motorshow with Chevrolets new small car and its hard-top cousin.
