Chevrolet Cars To Receive A Price Hike Of Almost Rs. 30,000 From 2017
Highlights
- Chevrolet cars will see a price hike of 1% to 3% depending on the variant
- The revised prices will only be effective from January 2017
- Chevrolet will also launch the Beat facelift in India in 2017
General Motors-owned Chevrolet India has announced a price hike across all its models in the country by approximately Rs. 30,000. Chevrolet cars will see a price hike of 1 per cent to 3 per cent depending on the product and variant. The revised prices will only be effective from January 2017, which is why the company is currently promoting the year-end offers and discounts that are currently available on Chevrolet cars to cash in on the holiday mood.
The company says that the primary reason for the price hike is the increase in Foreign Exchange rates and high inflationary cost. Chevrolet states that there has also been a considerable increase in raw material pricing leading to higher manufacturing cost in the sector. Sharing his views on this announcement, Hardeep Brar, Vice President of Sales & Network at GM India said, "In the adverse market conditions the price hike is necessitated on account of higher manufacturing cost as the input prices surge year-on-year. In-line with the industry practice and rising manufacturing and other administrative costs, we proposed a price increase across our product line in India."
It has been over a year since Chevrolet India launched a new vehicle in India as the company has been channelling its focus on exports. The last Chevrolet model to be launched in India was the Trailblazer SUV, which was back in 2015. In fact, the carmaker has also been working on the Trailblazer facelift that will go on sale in India in 2017.
Last year GM has also said that they will bring the Spin MPV to India in early 2017 as a replacement for the Chevrolet Enjoy. But early this year the company announced that it will no longer proceed with the launch of Chevrolet Spin MPV in India. Instead, Chevrolet is working on a new soft-roader for the Indian market, which will be based on the Beat Activ Concept that was showcased earlier this year at the 2016 Auto Expo. The same Beat Activ concept also serves as an inspiration for the upcoming new-gen Chevrolet Beat hatchback, which was recently spotted testing in India and is set to be launched in India next year.
