Popular Hatchbacks That Were Discontinued
Highlights
- Hatchbacks have higher ground clearance as opposed to sedans
- Hatchbacks are somehow very spacious while also fitting into tight spots
- General Motors was the first company to release hatchbacks
Some car types just seem to connect with the people and end up becoming popular. Hatchbacks are popular for various reasons. Many believe that hatchbacks are perfect for city life. Driving a hatchback through traffic is much more convenient than larger vehicles like SUVs. Hatchbacks provide great ground clearance too! The Indian market has seen some fine hatchbacks which are worth checking out.
Tata Indica
One of India's most popular diesel-based cars was very popular when it arrived on the scene. The popularity even led the company to bring a new-generation model, Tata Vista, into the market. But, after many years of usage, the company decided that the ever-changing market dynamics weren't well-suited for Indica.
Opel Corsa Sail
One of the main benefits of this car was that it was perfect for beginners. The low operation and maintenance cost for people just learning to drive was a perfect boon. The car, however, was left behind by new launches.
Maruti Zen Classic
The car was very popular in the Indian market during the initial years. It proved to be a good value for money, and the performance was good. However, by 2006, the demand decreased, and the company stopped manufacturing this car.
Renault Pulse
Even though the reviews for the car were overall positive, the company failed to register any significant profits with this car. As a result, it was soon discontinued after its release.
Daewoo Matiz
The Daewoo Matiz was an excellent car advanced for its time. The only major problem was the cost. The car proved to be too expensive for the general class and thus, had to be discontinued.
The word Aveo translates to "to desire." The car had good reviews from all across the market but couldn't make a huge impact. So in 2020, after 8 years of production, car production was halted.
Fiat Palio
The after-sales services proved to be a deal-breaker for the car. The car had good control, with drivers being able to manage the car well at high speeds, but the after-sales service was not up to the mark.
Mahindra Verito Vibe
The car was a good choice for owners with its high-quality performance but didn't fit the company's vision. With the company shifting focus towards the SUV market, the production of Verito was discontinued.
Hyundai Getz
Two things worked against the car. First, around the same time as this was launched, the i20 was picking up a lot of buyers in the market. The emission norms didn't help its case either. The car slipped into oblivion soon after.
Ford Fusion
The Ford Fusion had serious problems that led to its downfall. Engine stalling, loss of acceleration, transmission issues, etc., plagued the car since its inception, and the production for the car had to be discontinued.
The rapid pace at which the automobile market is evolving in India will not be a surprise if the companies discontinue some more hatchbacks to make space for new launches.
