Highlights

  • Tata's best-seller, Tiago, takes the number 1 spot on the list
  • Only 2 Maruti Suzuki cars are among the cheapest diesel cars in India
  • Other names on the list include Chevrolet Beat, Ford Figo, etc.
The National Green Tribunal's drive against pollution in Delhi has lead diesel cars to suffer the brunt. While the ban on diesel cars with engine capacities of 2000cc and more in Delhi and NCR has now been lifted, the government is unrelenting on its proscription on older diesel and petrol cars. While many have argued that the worrisome levels of pollution in the national capital has little to do with diesel vehicles, manufacturers have already started observing a shift in preference, with buyers now more inclined to petrol than diesel cars in India.

Despite the many arguments against them, the main takeaway remains that diesel cars not only deliver impressive fuel-efficiency figures but are also often among the most affordable cars in India. Here is a list of the cheapest diesel cars in India.
