If you were wondering, how BMW would respond to the threat posed by the likes of the Audi A3 and the Mercedes-Benz CLA, well, here's the answer. A fully camouflaged prototype of the BMW 1-Series Sedan has been spied undergoing testing in China.

Though a little late in the entry level premium sedan game, BMW is working on a competitor for the two German rivals - a 1-Series sedan. The car will be built on the UKL1 platform and is likely to feature a front-wheel drive layout.

Codenamed F52, the 1-Series sedan will be out soon, and will take design cues from the 1-Series facelift at the front, and the 3-series sedan for the rear. For BMW fans in India, the 1-Series holds a lot of promise, but can it be as flamboyant as the Mercedes CLA? We don't think so, and that is one department where BMW will need to work on.

We could see the 1-Series sedan make its debut later this year at the Frankfurt Motorshow, and we expect it to come to India by 2016.
