Bhubaneswar Adds 10 Electric Buses To Public Transport Fleet
Highlights
Bhubaneswar will now have electric rickshaws and electric buses plying on its streets. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik yesterday flagged off the new fleet of 10 electric buses operated by the city’s Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) along with a fleet of 50 e-rickshaws. The 10 buses are currently operating on select routes with travel currently free of charge till the end of the day on Sunday.
As per CRUT, the electric buses (Mo Bus) have been pressed into service on routes 9, 11, 12 and 23. There are also plans in place to induct a further 40 electric buses in the future. Each bus has a seating capacity of 30 with seats reserved for women marked out in pink.
The new bus service is also being pushed as a means of gender equality with 50 per cent of the guides employed for the buses set to be women.
The current bus routes originate and/or terminate at the Bhubaneswar railway station.
