Highlights

  • Bajaj is expected to launch the Pulsar CS400 by the end of August
  • The Pulsar CS400 will be Bajaj's new flagship bike in India
  • The bike will be powered by a 373.2cc liquid cooled engine

We had reported earlier that Bajaj Auto is all set to launch its latest flagship bike - the Pulsar CS400 in India soon. Expected to be launched by the end of this month, the bike is currently going through some final tests, and one of these test mules was recently spotted again. Like the previous test bike, this one was also seen without any camouflage or badging of any kind. The soon-to-be-launched Pulsar CS400 will be Bajaj's latest entrant in the premium bikes category and the company's most powerful offering in India as well.

Like the much popular Bajaj Pulsar 200NS, the CS400 also shares its powertrain with the KTM bikes in India. The heart of the motorcycle is the same 373.2cc liquid cooled engine sourced from the KTM 390 bikes. But like the NS's engine, Bajaj has worked on this single-cylinder motor, which now comes with the company's signature DTS-i triple spark technology and fuel injection. Bajaj has also detuned the engine for the CS400, which is why the engine that produced 43bhp in the KTM bikes will churn out about 40bhp in the CS400. Transmission duties will be taken care of by a 6-speed gearbox.

Even though the test mule seen in these pictures does not come with an anti-lock braking system (ABS), previous reports claim that the bike will get it as an option. That said, it is still not certain, whether the bike will get a single-channel ABS or a dual-channel ABS, whichever the case, we will soon find out once we get to ride the bike. Other features expected to be among the equipment list include - both front and rear disc brakes, Bajaj's signature perimeter frame, monoshock rear suspension, alloy wheels, large fuel tank and split seats.

In terms of looks, the bike comes with a muscular profile and a power tourer-like stance that reminds us of the Ducati Diavel. Apart from the bike's design and styling, the latest spy shots also give us a detailed look at the Pulsar CS400's features and equipment that have been carried over from the concept, like - the all-digital instrument cluster, tank mounted indicator display, LED headlamps, pilot lamps, and the visor. The spy shots also reveal the things that won't be a part of the production unit - like the bike gets regular telescopic front forks instead of USD (upside down) unit, the tail section has become beefier, and now you get larger grab rails instead of the more stylish and sleeker ones seen in the concept.

The test mule seen in these images comes in an all-black colour, deprived of any badging except for the DTS-i sticker on the engine. Now this doesn't essentially mean that the production bike will also be available in an all-black colour scheme, but it will be a welcome addition in my opinion. Upon launch, the Pulsar CS400 is expected to be priced between INR 1.5-1.8 lakhs.
