Highlights

  • Bajaj likely to bring back Pulsar 200NS with ABS
  • Pulsar 200NS to be the second Bajaj bike to offer ABS system
  • Will see no chages in the engine department
Two Bajaj Pulsar 200NS bikes with Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) were spotted being tested on the Mumbai-Pune highway recently. The Pulsar 200NS has been out of production for some time now, and the sighting of the test bikes with ABS indicates that Bajaj may be getting ready to launch an updated version soon. While there's been speculation that the ABS version of the Pulsar 200NS may come with fuel injection (like the Pulsar RS200), the test bikes have been spotted with fuel petcocks - which means that the engine will be carburetted, not fuel injected.

Bajaj Auto was one of the first two-wheeler manufacturers to take the muscular and aggressive naked street segment to the next level after Yamaha came out with the FZ-16. In fact the bike was so popular that Bajaj built three new Pulsars on the same design platform - the company's new flagship model - Pulsar RS200 and the adventure sport twins - Pulsar AS200 and AS150. Towards the end of 2015, Bajaj Auto had suspended the production of the Pulsar 200NS to make way for its fully-faired sibling, which was seeing greater demand in the market, especially the ABS version. Understanding the need of the hour, it seems like Bajaj is now ready to bring back its naked street fighter, this time equipped with ABS technology.

The two Pulsar 200NS bikes spotted recently were in two different colour schemes - one in yellow and black dual tone and the other one in white and black dual tone. While the base colours are similar to the older 200NS, the new graphics seem to have been inspired from the Pulsar RS200. Apart from that the rest of the bike remains unchanged with no new additions. We also don't expect to see any changes in the engine as well as the bike will continue to be powered by the same 199.5cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled mill that churns out 23.17bhp and develops a peak torque of 18.3Nm.

While there is not definite word on the launch date yet, we expect the bike to go on sale in the second half of 2016. As of now Bajaj Auto plans to introduce a premium motorcycle in the country as its next major offering, probably the much awaited mid-segment bike - Pulsar CS400. As for the price, expect the Pulsar 200NS ABS version to come with a premium of Rs. 10,000 to Rs.12,000 over the over the standard variant.
