Bajaj on Tuesday, July 26, announced its quarterly revenue figures for the quarter ending June 2022. The company revealed that net profits were up year on year though lower than what it recorded in Q4. In a post announcement media conference, Bajaj Executive Director Rakesh Sharma revealed that the company was eyeing developing high-end electric motorcycles in partnership with KTM.

“We are also in discussion with KTM (and) there is a joint work going on where we are looking at platforms for high-end electric motorcycles, Sharma said answering a question.

Sharma said that while the plan was certainly being considered an official announcement would only come “at the right time”.

Moving to Bajaj’s existing EV, the Chetak electric scooter, the company is looking to make it available across 100 cities in India from the current 27. Sharma also said that he was hopeful that sales for its electric scooters in the coming quarters would double or near double the 6,200 units it sold in Q1 FY 2023 depending on supply chain viability.

He revealed that the company had over 16,000 bookings for the Chetak presently. The Chetak remains one of the few electric scooters offered by a main stream two-wheeler manufacturer in what is becoming a market that is rapidly expanding on the back of numerous start-ups arriving on the scene.
