'Back To The Future' Fame DeLorean To Return In EV Avatar

The licensee of the DeLorean brand states that a new DMC model will come in August with an electric power train.

The DeLorean was the car that defined the Back To The Future franchise of movies from the 80s. Perhaps, it is the most famous movie car of all time. Aside from this, it was of course the pipe dream of former GM executive John DeLorean but the company went down years ago. But the DeLorean Motor Company which originally started off as an retrofitting and ressecruction franchise holder had launched a social media campaign in February "The Future was never promised" eluding to the car that could enable time travel in the movie franchise.

But now the DeLorean Motor Company is getting serious. It has stated that the next generation of the DeLorean will be an EV that will be shown off for the first time on August 18, 2022. The reimagined DMC-12 which be a concept car, so it is unlikely to be a production variant as the company likely doesn't have the cash to manufacture this at scale.

"DeLorean Motor Company has announced a new reveal date and released its first sneak peak of their electric vehicle. The concept car is now slated to premiere Thursday, August 18 at the prestigious Awards Ramp at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance," said the official press release.

"Although the new EV will still be displayed on the Concept Lawn at Pebble Beach on August 21, 2022, the long-awaited DeLorean reveal will come three days sooner. "Excitement is rising like the doors of our iconic sports car, and we are revealing the next generation prototype 3 days earlier than planned on the most prestigious stage at Pebble beach" said Troy Beetz, CMO of DeLorean Motor Company Inc.

Now this is not the first time there has been chatter about a new DeLorean. The company had released a teaser in 2016 promising a reborn DeLorean. Then in 2019, a group of Stanford scientists had made an autonomous DeLorean do donuts.
