Auto Sales May 2022: Toyota Sells 10,216 Units As Sales Revert To Pre-Pandemic Levels

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has reported its wholesale of 10,216 units in May 2022. The automaker registered a massive growth year-on-year with just 707 units in May 2021. However, sales were at a minimum last year due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, the company reported a 16 per cent growth with respect to cumulative sales between January and May this year with monthly sales gravitating back to pre-Covid times in 2019. To give you perspective, the automaker sold 10,112 units in May 2019. With respect to month-on-month sales, Toyota India registered a 32 per cent drop in volumes with 15,085 units sold in April 2022.

The Toyota Fortuner and Innova Crysta continue to generate healthy booking orders month-on-month

Commenting on the month's performance, Atul Sood, Associate Vice President, Sales, and Strategic Marketing, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, "Demand continues to peak as we have very encouraging booking orders and enquiries for all our models. The cool new Glanza has received an overwhelming response from our customers as it is their trust and faith in the brand that helps us perform better. Segment leading models like the Innova Crysta and the Fortuner continue to perform well and generate healthy booking orders. The Camry Hybrid and the Vellfire, continue to garner strong demand and our focus going forward would be to meet the immediate needs of our customers."

Toyota is gearing up for a busy second half of the calendar year with multiple launches in the works. The company will bring the new-generation Urban Cruiser, based on the new-gen Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza by July-August this year. This will be followed by the launch of the new-generation Innova that is expected to be badged as the 'Innova Hycross' that is likely to be sold alongside the Innova Crysta. There's also the upcoming compact SUV co-developed with Suzuki that's expected to go on sale towards the end of the year.
