Auto Sales July 2022: Ashok Leyland Domestic Sales Up 56%, Exports Rise 58%

Commercial vehicle manufacturer sold 12,715 units in the domestic market, down from 13,469 units in June 2022.

Ashok Leyland revealed its sales performance for the month of July 2022 reporting a 56% rise in total domestic sales. The commercial vehicle manufacturer reported total domestic sales of 12,715 units in July 2022 as against 8,129 units a year ago. Performance though was muted compared to June 2022 with sales declining by about 5.6% from 13,469 units.

Coming to the individual segments, medium and heavy truck sales grew by 99% year on year though at 6,596 units, numbers were down compared to June 2022 (7,703 units). Medium and heavy bus segment sales meanwhile grew a significant 370% year-on-year from a low 156-unit base. At 733 units for July 2022, sales were also marginally higher by about 5%.

Light commercial vehicle sales meanwhile grew by 16% year-on-year to 5,386 units. Month-on-month numbers too were up by about 6%.

While LCV and Bus sales and exports grew month-on-month, sales and exports for M&HCV trucks declined as compared to June 2022

Exports too witnessed a similar trend with numbers rising based on year-ago figures while being down compared to June 2022. Exports for buses and LCVs both saw numbers grow both month-on-month and year-on-year though exports for M&HCV trucks declined 15% month-on-month though they were up by 98% year-on-year at 6,943 units.

Ashok Leyland recently revealed its financial performance for the first quarter of FY2023 revealing a 145% growth in revenue with the company recording a profit in the April-June 2022 window as against a loss last year.

Focus on cumulative year-to-date figures, Ashok Leyland said that sales in the domestic market in the April-July 2022 period were up by 102% year-on-year with exports too growing by a notable 100%. Cumulative domestic sales for the period stood at 49,839 units with exports in the same period amounting to 53,276 units.
