Highlights

  • In April 2022, Skoda Auto India's total sales stood at 5,152 units
  • Compared to 961 units sold in April 2021, Skoda saw YoY growth of 436%
  • The Skoda Kushaq and Slavia have been the company's top-sellers

Skoda Auto India has released the monthly sales numbers for April 2022, during which the company's total sales stood at 5,152 units. Compared to 5,608 units sold in March 2022, its highest-ever monthly sales, the company saw a month-on-month decline of about 8 per cent. However, compared to the 961 units sold in April 2021, Skoda Auto India saw a year-on-year growth of 436 per cent. However, we must consider the fact that it was in April 2021 that India was hit by the second wave of covid-19, which led to another major lockdown. Plus, last year the company did not have two of its current best-sellers, the Kushaq and Slavia on sale in India. So, the over 5-fold growth seen in April is merely a one-off anomaly.

Right now, the carmaker is gearing up to launch the Kushaq Monte Carlo edition, which will go on sale in India this month on May 9

Zac Hollis, Brand Director, Skoda Auto India, said, "It is heartening to see that a sedan is helping us climb peak after peak in sales. The Slavia is a resounding success, while the Kushaq SUV continues finding newer homes. All of us at Skoda Auto India and our partners have been doubling our efforts in expanding our network, increasing customer touchpoints, penetrating markets we were not present in and being closer and more accessible to our customers. We have already crossed 190+ touchpoints so far and will only expand further. This 'Beyond the Product' approach is seeing us record consistent sales month on month."

Both the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia have been contributing an average of 2300-2500 units a month while the rest come from the completely knocked down (CKD) models like the Octavia, Superb and Kodiaq. While the split for April 2022 is unknown right now, we expect the numbers will be similar. Right now, the carmaker is gearing up to launch the Kushaq Monte Carlo edition, which will go on sale in India this month on May 9. Skoda is also working on expanding its network in India, and right now have over 190 touchpoints across the country.
