Auto Sales April 2022: Maruti Suzuki Records 10.21 Per Cent Sales Decline In Domestic PV Sales

Maruti Suzuki has recorded a slump of 10.21 per cent in its passenger vehicle business selling 121,995 units in the domestic market last month as compared to 1,35,879 units sold in the same month last year. The production continues to witness the impact of semiconductor shortage that has disrupted the supply chain and in-turn takes a toll on sales. The company said in its statement, "The shortage of electronic components had a minor impact on the production of vehicles, mainly domestic models. The company took all possible measures to minimise the impact." Having said that, the company still recorded a marginal growth of 1.5 per cent on month-on-month (MoM) basis as it sold 1,33,861 units last month.

The sales of entry-levels models like the Alto and S-Presso went down by 31.56 per cent selling 17,137 units as compared to 25,041 units sold in the same month a year ago. Compact cars like the Swift, Dzire, Baleno, Celerio, Ignis, WagonR and Tours witnesses a drop of 18.16 per cent selling 59,184 units as compared to 72,318 units sold a year ago. The Ciaz compact sedan too witnessed a whopping drop of 63.05 per cent selling just 579 units as compared to 1,567 units in April last year. That said, Sales of SUVs remained positive recording a double-digit growth of 33.18 per cent selling 33,941 units as compared to 25,484 units sold in the same month a year ago. Vans sales remained flat at 11,154 units as compared to 11,469 units sold a year ago.

The company also sold 4,266 units of the Super Carry light commercial vehicle (LCV) last month as compared to 1,272 units a year ago, recording a growth of 235.37 per cent. It also sold 5,987 units of the Glanza and Urban Cruiser to Toyota, registering a growth of 12.89 per cent selling when compared to 5,303 units sold a year ago. Its exports also went up by 6.8 per cent selling 18,413 units as compared to 17,237 units sold a year ago. Overall (including PV + LCV + OEM + Exports), Maruti Suzuki registered a sales decline of 5.65 per cent selling 1,50,661 units as compared to 1,59,691 units sold in the same month last year.
